Pet Health
When it comes to owning a pet, there’s no such thing as “set it and forget it.” Pets require a good deal of care and attention, and it’s up to you to help maintain their health and well-being. The team at Rolling Hills Veterinary Hospital is here to help.
Early Stages
You’ll want to make sure that your kitten or puppy gets off to a great start by getting established with a veterinarian as soon as possible after bringing them home. Be sure to bring any vaccine, deworming or other paperwork from your shelter or breeder to your visit. You may also want to write down any questions you have. It’s also a good ideal to bring a stool sample, if possible. Try to secure one that’s as fresh as possible and store it in an airtight container in the fridge until your visit.
Getting to Know You
Once our veterinarian has become acquainted with your pet, they’ll perform a full physical and begin a history. Tell them about your pet’s lifestyle and habits, especially if you have a kitten who will be outdoors at times. This will allow them to take precautions to prevent certain parasites, such as heartworms. Your veterinarian will also want to know whether you plan to breed your pet or have it spayed or neutered.
Continuous Care
Depending on whether you have a kitten or puppy, and their lifestyle, your veterinarian will recommend the appropriate vaccines, and any follow up appointments or treatments. They’ll establish a schedule and send a reminder when it’s time for you to bring your pet in.
Avoiding Dental Drama
Another facet of your pet’s care that our veterinarians oversee is dental health. Dental disease leads to health issues with the heart, liver and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream, so it’s something worth preventing through cleanings, or treating when necessary through dental procedures such as tooth extraction.
Good Grooming
There are many grooming tasks pets can’t do for themselves, and owners may not feel capable or comfortable doing these tasks. Fortunately, Rolling Hills Veterinary Hospital offers a wide variety of grooming services to help pets look and feel their best, such as fur trimming, nail trimming and gland expression.
Sit and Stay
No dog owner wants their pet to be anxious, lonely or inactive. But sometimes a dog walker isn’t an option. If that’s the case, you can utilize our dog daycare, available at our Buttonwood location. Your canine companion will get plenty of attention and exercise, and the chance to socialize with other dogs that are similar in size, energy level and temperament. This can be a great option for high-energy breeds or dogs with anxiety issues. We also offer long-term boarding at both of our locations for when you’re planning a trip or vacation and bringing your dog isn’t possible.
As Your Pet Ages
Regular checkups and vaccines will be an important part of your pet’s care as they grow. Your veterinarian will continue to keep an eye out for genetic predispositions, changes in your pet’s health, injuries, and weight changes. We offer nutrition counseling to help ensure that your pet is healthy and getting the right nutrition for their stage in life.
Some breeds, as well as senior pets, often have their own medical issues and conditions that require special care, such as respiratory problems, arthritis or lower activity levels. They may benefit from special foods or supplements that can improve their joint health and mobility, for instance.
